Wollaton Park Pre Wedding Shoot

REBECCA & JAMES Engagement Shoot

This was such a lovely engagement / pre wedding photoshoot at Wollaton Park in Nottingham with Rebecca and her fiancé James. Like most couples, Rebecca and James were both quite nervous on the day but after catching up whilst we had a leisurely stroll around the beautiful grounds, they soon relaxed and we were able to get some lovely shots. They are set to get married in Tuscany in August at Borgo Corsignano (link here) which looks absolutely incredible.

Plenty of couples who I speak with don't really know whether or not engagement shoots are worth the investment. I actually find as a photographer they are if not more valuable for me as they are the couple as it allows you all to get to know each other a little more before the wedding day. This is such an important element. Those who have spoken with me will know that I talk a lot about personality fit being crucial to building a rapport and really allowing you to ease into the photography on the wedding day. The last thing you want is to feel awkward on one of the most important days of your lives.

I've very rarely met many couples who are like "Oh Adam, we absolutely love having our pictures taken... I can't wait!!!" the large majority are like Rebecca and James, a little apprehensive and why not, its far from the most natural thing in the world being photographed. However this is where the personality element is so important. If you choose someone who you are truly comfortable with and you can have a laugh with, who you feel that if they tell you to do something you can tell them "not a chance Adam that'll look shit!" then you will ultimately end up with someone that you feel totally secure and confident around. This is when you get the most natural pictures and these images are the ones couples always look back at most fondly as it's a true representation of them as a couple rather than the photographers idea of what they SHOULD look like as a couple.

Wollaton Park Engagement Shoot

What pre wedding / engagement shoots also allow you to do is be a little bit more creative with less of a time pressure than you would get during the couples portraits on the wedding day itself. I tend to only take couples away for 25-30 minutes on the wedding day (don't want to keep you from the party and the bar!!). The engagement shoot allows us to have a chat about what you like / what you don't like and be a bit more playful as well as give you the opportunity to get some shots in an environment which is totally different to your venue. In fact this is something that I really encourage. If you're due to be getting married at a rural location, let's shoot in and around town or a more urban environment or vice versa. This then gives you a completely different set of images rather than capturing you in the same environment.
